Terri Thomas investigates sexuality, personal power, social constructs, and the feminine through painting, sculpture, video, performance, and installation. Thomas uses her extensive experience in the fashion industry as point of departure in her work’s questioning of the commodification of desire and industry set standards of beauty. Employing with equal acumen clever references to art history, women’s studies, and autobiographical imagery/atmosphere, Thomas allows the viewer to wrestle with their own, often entrenched notions of the body—the primal, the pious, the intellectual, and the glamorous view all overlapping in an uneasy sensual tangle.
